September Favorites

Hey beauties!  I have several favorites this month to share with you, so let’s jump right in!

Quick review:

Too Faced Star Dust palette by Vegas Nay:  This has been my go-to palette since day one of purchasing it.  If you never listen to me about a product recommendation, that’s fine…but listen to me about this one.  GET IT if you haven’t already.  It’s priced reasonably at $45.  Not only do you get 12 versatile matte and shimmery shades, but you also get the Better Than Sex Mascara, Too Faced Deluxe Insurance Primer, loose glitter pigment & six glamour guides.  This is a $192 value and will make a great Christmas gift.  For my full review click here.

Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation:  This foundation claims that it “gives an all-day flawless coverage and better-looking skin in 3 weeks. The foundation reduces the appearance of spots, bumps, dullness and redness and gives you a brighter, more even and smoother skin.” -Maybelline.

I personally have not used it for three straight weeks to be able to agree to this statement or not.  However, the few times I have used it. I’VE LOVED IT.  The formula is amazing.  I want to put it to the three week test, but right now coming out of Summer, it’s a little light for my skin.   It’s a medium to full coverage foundation that gives me a flawless finish, but doesn’t feel heavy on my skin.  It is long wearing and doesn’t smudge.  I feel like this would be a good affordable ($11.99) foundation for all skin types.

IT brushes for Ulta – The Airbrush Blurring Foundation brush ($24) is the first Ulta brush I have purchased.  My brush collection consists mainly of MAC, Sigma, e.l.f. & Sonia Kashuk.  It is a little pricey but not overpriced, in my opinion.  My gamble paid off, I love the way it applies foundation to my face.  The synthetic brush hair blends makeup smoothly and evenly for an airbrushed finish look.  Its dome shape provides easy control for all over application.  I notice myself reaching for this brush over my beauty blenders.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel–  I happened to run across this moisturizer on sale so picked it up to give it a try.  I’ve been using Oil of Olay since I was 21 (long time folks) and while I love it and it has done well for me, I decided to venture out and try something new.  I noticed this was a water based product vs. oil, which means it won’t clog pores.  YAY!  No breakouts!  It is formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, which is a natural component of skin, so it helps lock in and retain moisture all day.  It leaves your skin feeling hydrated and supple without being heavy or greasy.  I love it because it’s refreshing and my skin feels great all day.  A little goes a long way too.  Doesn’t require a lot of product for all over coverage.

Eco-Beauty Good Night. Night Cream–  Thanks to Ipsy, I discovered this gem!  I received a sample in my August Glam Bag and it lasted me throughout the entire month of September.  In fact I’m just about to finish up the sample.  I loved this night cream so much I bought TWO jars of this!  It is pricier than drugstore but less than high-high end.  It runs about $40 a jar. I read testimonies online that this night cream was better than creams that run $200+.  Good for us!  It has received 5 star ratings across the board.  I give it 5 stars as well.  While I do love my usual Oil of Olay, (as I mentioned above that I’ve used forever) I’d choose this night cream over it, any day.  I noticed a difference in my skin right away, within a few days at that.  It too, has hyaluronic acid.  It also includes; vitamin E, aloe, natural shea butter,  folic acid, antioxidant panthenol, & an anti-aging botanical complex.  So basically, while you sleep, this cream works overtime.  I noticed smoother lines and plumper skin almost instantly.  My skin feels and looks amazing.  The other day I was driving down the road and I looked in my mirror and noticed my skin had a natural glow about it.  I didn’t have on a lick of makeup, bronzer or highlighter either.  That was the moment I decided to buy two jars.   I want to bathe in this stuff y’all!!  I’m not kidding.

Gucci Bamboo perfume & lotion–  Perfume is one of those things that isn’t for everybody or at least certain scents.  I normally don’t even care for a lot of perfumes but this one, I’m in love with.  I have only a select few that I like enough to mention, and this is probably the top one.  I received this sample set in an online Ulta purchase.  One day Mack (the fiance) and I, were driving around with my Jeep top down, and he complimented me on how good I smelled.  I had only just applied a little bit of the lotion to my arms.  Now, you know it’s strong when you can smell someone’s lotion riding in a topless Jeep.  Y’all it’s STRONG, so a little goes a LOOOOOOOONG way.  Even though it is on the strong side, it does smell phenomenal.

“Soft and intense at once, Gucci Bamboo’s sensorial composition draws its inspiration from the Gucci woman’s harmonious dichotomy. Natural and resonant ingredients create a captivating olfactory story. Woody and warm notes vibrate through the heart and base. Deep Sandalwood, heady Tahitian Vanilla and unique grey Amber accords strike a complementary contrast with the inherent femininity found in exotic floral notes of soft Casablanca Lily, feminine Orange Blossom and delicate Ylang Ylang.” -Gucci

Quick Tip Tuesday: Smashed Eyeshadow?

How sickening is it when you pull an eyeshadow out of your drawer or make up bag and it’s smashed to smithereenes?  Especially if it’s one of your favorites!  Vomit.  Here’s how to fix it!!

What you need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Cotton balls or tissue

What to do:

  • Soak cotton ball with rubbing alcohol.  Squeeze out any excess alcohol.  (You don’t want to turn the shadow into a liquid.)
  • Press cotton ball firmly into shadow to pack it back together and hold in place for at least 30 seconds.
  • Gently lift cotton ball off shadow and wipe away any excess powder.

Can also use this trick with powder, blush and bronzers too.

Outfit Post: Green & Fringe Part 2

As promised, day 2 of “green & fringe”.  I recently purchased this shirt dress from Target.  It’s the perfect transitional dress for fall.  You can dress it up with heels or dress it down with sandals on those warmer days.  You can pair it with boots or booties on cooler days.  Or if it’s really cold out, you could add leggings and a leather or a blue jean jacket for extra style and warmth.

Shop the look:

  • Charming Charlie Fairweather Fringe Booties – exact here (currently out of stock) or similar here and here

Quick Tip Tuesday: Waterline Smudging?

Setting your waterline with an eye shadow prevents smudging and helps liner stay put all day.

How to set:  After lining your waterline with an eye pencil,  dip an eyeliner brush into a matching eye shadow, and dab onto the waterline.

Too Faced Born This Way Review

Hey beauties, I’m sorry I’ve been MIA again  for a while.    I’ve been busy planning the last minute deets, regarding our upcoming nuptials.  Talk about last minute, I just purchased my shoes and jewelry last week and the dress still hasn’t come in yet!!!!  We get married in less than a month.  AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!   Anyway, this tangent brings me to today’s post.  In the midst of the wedding planning, I decided to try out some different foundations that might be wedding worthy.   I splurged on Too Faced’s Born This Way foundation, which you can get at Sephora or Ulta for $39.

This was a flop for me, I wanted to like this so badly (mainly because of the price tag), but I didn’t at all.

This foundation claims: “Born This Way is an oil-free foundation that masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. For coverage so undetectable, you can’t see the makeup and you can’t see imperfections – all that’s left is naturally radiant skin that looks like you were Born This Way.”

For me it was quite opposite.  I could literally feel it on my skin, because it sat so heavy on my face.  I could also see every line and imperfection, magnetized.  It didn’t stay on well either, my fiance kissed me on the cheek and it rubbed off onto his lips.   It also was too yellow pigmented for my skin.  I tried it out more than once;  with a primer, without a primer, applied with a brush then a beauty blender.  No matter what I did, this foundation was just a no go.  In my opinion save your money or splurge on something else, like MAC.  I know some people rave about this and it may work for you.  It just wasn’t for me.   **sigh**

Luckily, Ulta will let you make returns within 60 days of purchase, so this will be going back.

Quick Tip Tuesday: Dry Flaky Mascara?

Oopsie, so you left the top off your favorite mascara too long and now it’s dry and flaky?  Not ready to throw it out just yet?  Quick fix:  Add 2-3 drops of saline solution into the tube and swirl the wand around a bit.  This should extend the life a little longer.  Unless it’s way past the expiration point, then I suggest going on and tossing it.  Sigh….I know….I’m sorry.

(I’ve touched base on when you should toss mascara, if you want to see my recommendation click here).

It’s Football Time in Tennessee!!!! Game Day Attire.

Rocky Top, you’ll always be, home sweet home to me…..It’s finally that time of year again y’all!!!!  Fall and football season!!!!  My absolute favorite time of year.  I know technically it’s not the “first day of fall”, but opening game day for the Volunteers is the beginning of fall to me.  The Volunteers have always been MY team and no matter what state I live in, my home Tennessee, will always be in my blood.  I’ve always had a love for football, thanks to my dad.  He used to take me to Vols games growing up or we’d watch games together on TV.  Even after I had moved out of the house, I would call him throughout the games constantly.  “Dad!!!  Did you see that play?!  Dad, what are they doing?!” etc.  Those are some of the fondest memories I shared with him.  I miss those times dearly.

Luckily for me, my fiance is also huge Volnut too!  Of course if he wasn’t, I wouldn’t be marrying him!  😉  We even planned our wedding festivities around Tennessee’s bye week so we wouldn’t miss a game!  True fandom right there guys.

Today I’m going to discuss my game day attire. If you caught yesterday’s post, then you’re seeing a theme this weekend.  I posted a Vols game day make up look.  Check it out here if you missed it.

Most of the time, if I’m attending a game, I will wear a team logo t-shirt (I have so many, it’s not even funny), jeans and tennis shoes or a hoody/sweatshirt if its cold out.  However, sometimes I want to wear something other than casual attire, especially  if we are going out and watching it with friends or at a bar.  So below are a few of my go to looks, along with a t-shirt casual look and emphasis on my favorite TN necklace a dear friend gave me when I moved:

I basically throw together something orange and white, and add cute jewelry, boots or booties.  Have fun with game day!  You can do something similar with any team color.  Albeit, orange is the best color by far.  Even Frank Sinatra said so.  Not only was it his favorite color he also always said “Orange was the happiest color” and I agree!

GO VOLS!!!!!

Game Day Makeup Inspiration: Tennessee Vols

In celebration of opening weekend for college football, I decided to create a game day look for the Tennessee Vols.  Orange and white baby!  Go Big Orange!  Whoo hoo!!!!  Ok ok….clearly I’m excited!  You think?  Plus I had an excuse to break out my orange shadows!

I kept it simple for the rest of my face and used neutral colors on the cheeks and lips.

(Guess I was on a NYX kick today)
