Winter 2015 Target Haul

It’s sweater weather time y’all and Target is having a huge sweater sale going on right now!!!  Below are pieces I recently picked up to add to my winter collection:

SWEATERS:

  • Mossimo Open Poncho- (exact here)
  • Mossimo Poncho Pullover- (exact here)
  • Merona Chenille Open Cardigan- (exact here berry purple).  Available Colors: BlackDrizzle Grey/BlackHeather GreyRio RoseSour Cream & Tea Cup Blue

  • Merona Tunic Sweater (Exact here).  Available Colors: BlackBronzeGreenHeather Blue, Heather GreyOatmeal Heather, & Purple.

IMG_6705

I love tunic sweaters.  They are super comfortable and easy to style.  Especially on those lazy days when you don’t want to put a lot of thought into an outfit.  Throw it on with leggings and boots and pair it with a chunky scarf or long pendant necklace and out the door you go.

FLANNEL:

  • Mossimo Flannel Plaid Shirts:

(Black & White exact here.)  (Merona Green & Black exact here.)  (Red/Blue plaid exact here.)

IMG_6703

I’m really into flannel/plaid this year.  You can dress flannel up by adding a statement necklace (like this Morningtide Convertible Collar necklace pictured below.  Purchase here SKU # N230) and pair it with a black or leather pencil skirt and heels.  If you’d rather keep them more casual pair with skinny jeans or leggings and boots.

IMG_6682

They make great layering pieces too.  Wear them under sweaters or over tank tops or graphic tee’s.   Hmmm….I think I just inspired myself to do a “how to wear flannel” post.  Be on the lookout!!

FAUX FUR VEST:

How cute is this vest?!  I have NOTHING like this in my closet so I thought it would be a great addition.  I think it will be a great layering piece for both dressy and casual outfits.

  • Mossimo Cropped Faux Fur Vest- (Exact here)

IMG_6704

For a casual look add on top of a flannel shirt with jeans and pair with booties.

For a dressy look add-on top of a dressy button down or chambray shirt and pair with leather leggings and heels.  Can also be worn with a dress or skirt.

Novemeber Favorites

Can you believe it’s the end of November already!?  Thanksgiving has come and gone, and now Christmas is right around the corner.  Does time fly by as quickly for you, as it seems to do for me?  Craziness!

Here are my top favorite products I’ve been loving this month:

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion:  This is an acne spot treatment drying lotion that works very quickly and effectively.  This treatment is formulated with salicylic acid, calamine and other quick-drying ingredients to shrink pimples and whiteheads virtually overnight. It’s safe for all skin types (will not dry out your skin like other acne treatments).  Every now and then those pesky hormones will cause a random pop up on me.  Ladies, this is a miracle in a bottle.  I love this stuff.   Use it before bed after your night time cleansing routine, dip a Q-tip into the pink sediment and apply a dab of lotion directly on your trouble spot by using a Q-tip.  Don’t rub it in. Let it dry and rinse off in the morning. DO NOT shake the bottle.

Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara:  (Star Wars limited edition packaging here)  I have the waterproof version in the regular tube and the non waterproof in the Star Wars tube.  I’ve heard mixed reviews on this product but I love it.  It works great for me.  The wand is small and narrow so it makes it easy to reach every lash.  It glides on easily, is long wearing, lengthens and adds volume.  I usually only need one coat vs. my normal two coats with other mascaras.  My favorite part about it is that it doesn’t flake or smudge.  I don’t use the waterproof version often only because it is hard to remove!  Takes a lot of scrubbing.  Have you tried it?  If so, what are your opinions on it?

e.l.f. spf 20 Face Primer:  I received this primer in my e.l.f. beauty box at the end of October and was pleasantly surprised.  It has a slight gritty feel to it when your first apply but the more you rub it into your skin it dissolves.  It makes my skin feel silky and smooth, almost like an extra moisturizer.  It makes foundation application quick and easy and creates a flawless look.  It’s comparable to Smash Box’s Photo Finish Primer ($49).  I’m glad it was sent to me, because I probably never would have picked it up and would have missed out on this treasure.  So if you’re looking to save some money on a good but less expensive primer, this is my suggestion at $6.

BH Cosmetics palettes:  I couldn’t pick just one.  I have three that I’m loving.

  1. BH Cosmetics Modern Mattes Palette – 28 matte shades for $7!!!!!!
  2. BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette – 14 eyeshadows and 4 highlighters (2 could be bronzers).  $12.50
  3. BH Cosmetics Blushed Neutrals Palette – 21 blush/neutral eye shadows (satin, matte and shimmer) and 5 blushes for $10.

Not only are they VERY AFFORDABLE but the quality is just as amazing as higher end products.  All shades are very pigmented, blends well, long wearing and non creasing,  I would highly recommend BH Cosmetics to anyone.  They’re especially perfect for people on a budget.

Star Wars Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick  in shade #30:  This lipstick is ridiculously (in a good way) pigmented and glides on smoothly.  This is my new “go to red” color.  I haven’t tried any of the other shades yet but if they are anywhere close to this, I want them all!  This rich lipstick is infused with shea butter and is long wearing.  I wore it to dinner the other night and it was still in place after eating and drinking.  I recommend this to anyone that loves rich red lipstick or lipstick in general!

In picture below I am wearing the #30 lipstick and BH Cosmetics Blushed Neutral palette as mentioned above.

Quick Tip Tuesday: Apply Eyes Before Foundation?

Honestly, it’s strictly preference on the order you apply your makeup.  Some people (well most people) like to do their foundation routine first, then apply the eyes.   However, I like to apply my eye makeup first.  It is easier to fix mistakes this way.  Example:  Fallout from shadows, eyeliner oopsies, smudges, etc.  This way you can simply wipe away any mistakes with a makeup wipe without ruining your concealer/foundation.

My Full Face Routine Step-by-Step:

  • Wash face then moisturize.  DO NOT SKIP MOISTURIZER!
  • Prime eyes with shadow primer
  • Apply eyeshadow and liner on upper lid
  • Prime face with foundation primer
  • Apply foundation & concealer as needed
  • Set with powder
  • This is when I apply liner/shadow on lower lash line
  • Bronze/contour
  • Blush
  • Highlight
  • Mascara
  • Lips

Again, it’s strictly preference on what works for you.  This is just the way I like to apply a full face, because it works best and easiest for me.

What is your makeup routine?

Thanksgiving Makeup Look: Cranberry Eye Look

I wanted to create a Thanksgiving inspiration makeup look for you beauties using a cranberry eye shadow color.  Below is what I came up and the products I used:

[You can use similar colors you already have on hand]

The Look:

Tgiving2

The Steps:

  • Prime your eyelids with an eyeshadow primer.  Any primer will suffice.
  • Dab a gold shimmer pot color on your eye lid.  I used Maybelline’s Color Tatoo Metal Barely Branded.

IMG_6618

  • Apply a nude shadow into crease using a fluffy eyeshadow brush.  This will be the first transition color.

IMG_6611

  • Using that same brush, apply another nude shadow with orange tones into crease deepening the transition.

IMG_6612

  • Using a medium eyeshadow brush, apply a cranberry shadow into crease and outer upper lid.

IMG_6613

  • Using a small tapered eyeshadow brush, apply a chocolate brown shadow into outer V

IMG_6615

  • Blend crease and outer V with a clean fluffy shadow brush, buffing out any harsh lines
  • Apply a light shadow of your choosing onto brow bone.  (I used the first color shown in steps mixed with a white shadow)
  • Dab a cream colored shimmer eye shadow onto lid using your finger.  If any harsh lines use the clean fluffy brush to lightly blend.  Also apply to inner corner.

IMG_6616

  • Line upper lash line with a black gel liner and slightly wing out
  • Line outer lower water line with a dark brown pencil
  • Line inner lower water line with a bronze pencil
  • Apply the cranberry color using a flat definer brush on lower lash line blending into the water line.  Also apply the chocolate brown to center lower lash line.  Blend out.
  • Apply two coats of your favorite mascara

I wanted my eyes to be star of this look so I used a light rose colored blush and a nude lip.  You can wear a bold lip if you prefer.

Quick Tip Tuesday: Freezing Your Eyeliner

If you’re having trouble with your eyeliner crumbling on you as you apply or if it’s breaking repeatedly while sharpening, try freezing your eyeliner pencils for 5-15 minutes.  This causes the liner to become more firm and should glide on more smoothly.  It also helps prevent product waste while being sharpened.

Outfit Post: Fall Plaid

Over the weekend we hosted a chili/bonfire get together at our house.  I wanted to be comfortable but still “stylish” so I hit the closet and pulled out this fall favorite:  Plaid and boots (or as I like to call the look Female Lumberjack).  🙂  I wanted to dress it up a little so I paired it with this GORGEOUS statement necklace.  What are some of your fall favorites?

Shop the look:

  • Mossimo plaid shirt- Similar here, here or here
  • Victoria Secret leggings- (Any black leggings will do)
  • Payless riding boots- Similar here or here

Quick Tip Tuesday: Heat Your Eyelash Curler

Heat your lash curler with a blow dryer for 3-5 seconds to give your lashes an all day hold.   This works the same way with your lashes as heat works with a curling iron for your hair.

[Sidenote:  Do not hold heat on curler any longer than 5 seconds.  Burning your eyelids can be very unpleasant.]

“The Wedding Dress”

The most important part of a wedding is the dress, right?  Aside from the groom, of course…teehee.  I kid, I kid…but it is a huge part.  A few weeks ago, I posted a sneak peek look into the accessories I decided to pair with my dress.  (To see post click here).  Today, I am finally sharing the dress details with you beauties.  Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.  As most of you know, we were gone almost the whole month of October.  We ran off to Vegas for a week and got married in front of the “Welcome To Las Vegas” sign with a handful of family and friends.  After that, we had a weekend long reception, at a beautiful cabin in the Smoky Mountains.  Then we were off to our Honeymoon for a week, in gorgeous St. Lucia.  So needless to say, the month of October was a tad busy.  I’m finally getting settled back into the real world **sigh** but here we go:

Dress Details:

  • Allure Romance Collection  style #2807 purchased from Ellie’s Bridal in Alexandria, VA
  • Gold/Ivory in color
  • Lace and tulle fabric
  • Mermaid silhouette
  • Natural waist
  • Floor length with train.  Added bustle
  • Beading & lace flower embellishment throughout the illusion netting on this fitting gown’s deep V neckline
