Quick Tip Tuesday: Nail Polish Hack

Stick your nail polish in the fridge for 10-15 min before applying, as it will go on more smoothly.  Especially if it is thick and hard to apply.

A Look Inside My Beauty Room

I have to brag on the hubby for a minute y’all.  He truly he is the best, and not just because he buys me makeup on occasion, but he fully supports me 100% and supports my goals and dreams.  Which is why he took me to Ikea one day and told me to pick out a desk and supplies for a vanity.  He cleared out a spare bedroom for me and helped me create my own little office/beauty space.  Now I can have clients in a separate, more professional environment and a personal space to work.  Although, he could have just simply been tired of me hogging all the bathroom space and devised a clever plan to kick me out.  🙂

It took a couple of weeks to complete, having to wait on orders to be delivered, having the time to put the 1,000 pieces together, but it was well worth the wait. So without further ado, here is my new space:

Quite a difference huh?  This bed is now in our basement for guests to use if they choose to forego the other two spare bedrooms upstairs.  I now call it the Holley Suite, because also in the basement is a living room area with a tv, gaming system and a huge sectional couch.  There is also a desk and full bathroom.  So really it’s a win win for everybody! Quick Tip Tuesday: How To Make Your Highlighter Pop

If you really want to make your highlighter pop for a glam look or if you just love to shine, here is a tip on how to do so:

Spray your face with a setting spray before you apply your highlighter.  The key is to spray one half of your face first and right before it dries (still should be a little damp) apply the highlighter to your cheekbones.  Repeat on the other side.  It enhances the highlight and makes it more pigmented on the skin.  It’s the same concept as if you apply eye shadow with a damp brush.

“Paint your pout with gilded glamour.” -Milani

These new limited-edition metallic matte liquid lip crèmes come in 8 different shades and are around $8.99 each.  You can pick them up at the drugstore or on They are bold and highly pigmented, these liquid lip colors apply with a shiny soft luster then dry to a smooth matte finish, without drying out your lips.  They are non-sticky, waterproof, non-transferable and very long-lasting, claiming to get up to 16 hours of wear.   I personally didn’t get up to 16 hours of wear but I at least got 8-9+ without having to re-apply, that was with eating and drinking too.  I will vouch that they do stay put!  I used a lot of makeup remover and had to do quite a bit of scrubbing to get the swatches (below) off my arm and I had my sister try them out too, and they passed the waterproof test.  She claimed it was still in place after a shower.

I highly recommend these if you are looking for a long wearing, affordable, smooth metallic-matte liquid lipstick.  Again, they are limited-edition so grab one (or all) while you can!!!  They do have a smell to them, albeit a pleasant one, that reminds me of butterscotch.  The smell doesn’t linger long, but if you don’t like strong scents you may not like this.  I normally don’t, but this one in particular didn’t deter me.

  1. Chromatic Addict – Beige
  2. Matterialistic – Rose Gold
  3. Matte About You – Coral
  4. Cinemattic Kiss – Pink
  5. Dramattic Diva – Hot Fuchsia
  6. Mattely In Love – Red
  7. Automatic Touch – Wine
  8. Raving Matte – Purple

(My swatching got a little janky…oops)

If you want to see a certain lipstick color on the lips let me know.  I couldn’t swatch these on my lips in one sitting, as I would no longer have any lips left after scrubbing each of these off. 🙂

To help create a crisp, straight line after drawing winged liner, take any eye makeup remover and add a few drops into the cap.  Then take an angled brush and dip it into the cap getting the brush wet with remover.  Gently brush it along the bottom of the wing liner to smooth out any unevenness or to clean up any possible mistakes you may have made.   This is an excellent trick if you tend to be a little sloppy with eyeliner.

Oval Makeup Brush Set – Worth The Hype?

First and foremost I must say that I am reviewing the knock off version of the Artis oval makeup brushes.  The whole 10 piece set at Artis starts at $355 (ick).   I found a site on Facebook or Instagram called that offered a similar 10 piece set for $25 (now we’re talking).   I ordered a set thinking, well if they suck then I didn’t waste a lot of money on them but if they turned out great then I scored big time!

The brushes round shape design is perfect for blending foundation, blush, or powder to your face or cheeks for a flawless finish.  The round and oval shapes help get into hard to reach places and into those nooks and crannies with ease.  The best way to use is to keep the brush moving across the skin without lifting.

  • Brushes 1 & 2 – Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brushes 3 & 4 – Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour, Foundation, Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brush 5 – Concealer,  Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour, Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brush 6 – Eye Shadow, Eye Liner, Concealer,  Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour
  • Brush 7 – Eye Shadow, Cheek Contour, Concealer, Foundation, Setting Powder
  • Brush 8 – Eyeshadow, Brow Color, Eyeliner, Concealer
  • Brush 9 – Lip Finish, Eyeshadow, Brow Color, Concealer
  • Brush 10 – Lip Finish, Eyeshadow, Concealer

The brushes are animal cruelty free and made with synthetic hair and are really soft to the touch, which feels good against the skin.  The bristles are pretty dense so it absorbs less product when you apply it to the skin, instead of getting absorbed into the brush and I do feel like it gives you a flawless look.  However, the first time I used these, I jabbed brush #5 into my eyeball while applying concealer.  I’m not going to lie, it hurt!  So be careful around the eye!!!  Of course not everyone is as clumsy as me.  🙂  I really liked how the brushes applied powder products such as blush and bronzer to the skin.  A little product goes a long way and blends easily and evenly onto the skin.  Due to the fact the bristles are so soft you may be inclined to push harder on the face when applying, which leads to pulling of the skin.  You don’t have to push hard, simply use a light hand to achieve a flawless finish.

I clean these brushes as I do any others using a mild soap or cleanser.  (See how here)  You could also use makeup brush cleansing wipes.

The only complaint I have really is that the plastic handles are pretty flimsy so I recommend putting your pointer finger on the back of the head of the brush as you apply for added support.  Also there were a few stray hairs sticking out of a few brushes, but I just cut them off.  Problem solved.

Overall I think they are unique and fun and for a set of 10 for $25 you can’t really go wrong.  Especially if you are needing a new set, building/adding on to your collection or wanting to try something new.  Also it’s worth it just to see your husband’s reaction when he see’s them for the first time.  Mine tried to brush my bulldog’s hair with it….(SMH).

Quick Tip Tuesday: Multi-Tasking Makeup

This summer when you are shopping for makeup, look for double-duty products that will work for the lips, cheeks and/or eyes.  Not only will it make getting ready quick and easy, but it will be a lighter load in your suitcase when traveling on vacation.

Spring Fling Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hey beauties!!!  It’s been a while since I did an eye makeup tutorial for you and I apologize for that!  Today I have a colorful, bright spring look that combines some of the vibrant shades from the new Urban Decay Alice Through The Looking Glass palette.  The bright green tones give your eyes that pop of color perfect for the spring season.  Follow the step-by-step photo tutorial to get the look!

The Look:

Products Used:

Brushes Used:

  1. Prime eyelids using a shadow primer and then sweep Looking Glass onto brow bone.
  2. Using a tapered blending brush, sweep Reflection into the crease and above the crease to create a transition.
  3. Blend Chessboard using a blending brush into the crease slightly lower than where you applied Reflection.  This will give the look a soft gradient effect.
  4. Using a small concealer brush, dab Soft Ochre (or any flat white pencil, shadow or cream) onto the eye lid.  This acts as a base for the bright green color to adhere to.
  5. Dab Heads Will Roll all over the lid with a flat shader brush.  Apply as many times as needed to get the vibrancy you want.  I applied three applications.  Then bring that shade down onto the entire lower lash line and tear duct using the same brush.
  6. Blend Bandersnatch into the crease and partially onto the lid (outer V) using a small tapered blending brush. Then with the previous flat shader brush, blend Bandersnatch onto lower outer lash line blending over the green shade.  (I just like saying Bandersnatch.)
  7. Using your finger tip, dab Royal Flush onto the center of the eyelid for added sparkle.  Also dab some into the tear duct and middle lower lash line with a small concealer brush.  Go back over and blend out any harsh lines that may occur.  You may have to apply a little more Reflection and/or Chessboard to smooth everything out.
  8. Apply gel liner with an eye liner brush.  Wing out for a more dramatic look.  Add mascara and then lashes (optional).

You’re all set!!!
