Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

Urban Decay is turning up the heat this summer with this brand new 12 amber-hued neutral eyeshadow palette.  They have taken a whole new spin on the Naked collection by including warm browns, burnt oranges and rich siennas.  This palette compliments ALL skin tones and can be used to create anything from warm sensual daytime looks to sultry-smoky nighttime looks.  The palette launches at urbandecay.com on June 23 and online at Sephora and Ulta on July 10 and in stores July 13, and retails for $54.

This is by far the sleekest packaging for an UD Naked palette.  It comes in an oversized “matchbox” and the palette itself is a hard plastic case with a 3-D effect inlay on top.

It also includes a full-size mirror and a double-ended brush.  One end is a fluffy tapered blending brush and the other is a large fluffy shader brush.

There are seven mattes, four metallic shimmers, and one satin shimmer.  Every shade is velvety in texture, rich in color, easily blendable with little to no fallout, non-creasing, and is long wearing.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Collection

The launch of Too Faced’s Sweet Peach collection has been on my calendar since last spring when they first released the original Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette.  It sold out before I could blink, and I harassed all the Sephora/Ulta employees in the area until I was told it wasn’t going to be restocked and that it was a limited edition.    I even looked on ebay to see what they were selling for and after seeing them go for $200 or more, I decided it was a loss cause.  So with a broken heart, I decided to move on.

As months went by I heard rumors of a possible relaunch of the coveted palette, so you could imagine my excitement when those rumors claimed to be true!   On December 14, Too Faced launched an entire collection dedicated to this delightful peach theme.   TooFaced.com was expecting an extremely high volume of customers so they created an algorithm that created a virtual line in which you were chosen to shop.  Then once it was your turn to shop you only had a limited amount of time to make your purchases.  However, I don’t think they were expecting over 90,000 visitors to the shop the site for the new collection.  The launch created such a frenzy that it broke the internet!  Tons and tons of complaints poured over all social media platforms, as the virtual line kept crashing and pausing and throwing people in a panic.  I was one of these crazed shoppers that logged onto the website at 12:01 am and was shocked to see that my number in line was in the 12,000s!!!  I have never seen anything like this before, especially over makeup.  After about an hour of impatient waiting, I noticed the line wasn’t dwindling down, so I decided to take a nap.  I just so happened to wake up at 3:30-4:00 a.m. and lo-and-behold it was my turn!  Luckily I didn’t sleep through my place in line!  Sheesh…the things I go through for you guys (and ok, myself)!

I think people (including myself) were concerned that the palette was going to sell out again quickly.  TooFaced was reassuring everyone that there were plenty in stock and would be a permanent collection.  So no worries…there’s plenty in stock and can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta, Macys or TooFaced.com.

Originally, I only wanted the eyeshadow palette but once I saw how cute the entire collection and packaging was, I couldn’t help myself.  The palettes are made of tin with peach rivets or the raised peach logo, and each includes a mirror. The entire collection smells like peaches too!  If you aren’t a fan of peach scents then this may not be for you…but if so, you’re wrong.  🙂   This sweet peach bag was also included (via TooFaced’s site).  I mean who could resist right?

e.l.f. Beautifully Precise Brush Collection

I get extremely excited about new launches, especially when said launches are affordable!  e.l.f. has stepped up their game in the brush world.  While I’ve always been a fan of the e.l.f. brushes in general, these are probably my favorite thus far.  Not only are they absolutely gorgeous, they are also decently priced to help with building a brush collection.

These brushes are custom designed with silver ferrules and clear triangular handles for ultimate control.  The bristles are made with luxuriously soft white-fiber hairs.  The brushes are also cruelty-free.

“Paint your pout with gilded glamour.” -Milani

These new limited-edition metallic matte liquid lip crèmes come in 8 different shades and are around $8.99 each.  You can pick them up at the drugstore or on milani.com. They are bold and highly pigmented, these liquid lip colors apply with a shiny soft luster then dry to a smooth matte finish, without drying out your lips.  They are non-sticky, waterproof, non-transferable and very long-lasting, claiming to get up to 16 hours of wear.   I personally didn’t get up to 16 hours of wear but I at least got 8-9+ without having to re-apply, that was with eating and drinking too.  I will vouch that they do stay put!  I used a lot of makeup remover and had to do quite a bit of scrubbing to get the swatches (below) off my arm and I had my sister try them out too, and they passed the waterproof test.  She claimed it was still in place after a shower.

I highly recommend these if you are looking for a long wearing, affordable, smooth metallic-matte liquid lipstick.  Again, they are limited-edition so grab one (or all) while you can!!!  They do have a smell to them, albeit a pleasant one, that reminds me of butterscotch.  The smell doesn’t linger long, but if you don’t like strong scents you may not like this.  I normally don’t, but this one in particular didn’t deter me.

  1. Chromatic Addict – Beige
  2. Matterialistic – Rose Gold
  3. Matte About You – Coral
  4. Cinemattic Kiss – Pink
  5. Dramattic Diva – Hot Fuchsia
  6. Mattely In Love – Red
  7. Automatic Touch – Wine
  8. Raving Matte – Purple

(My swatching got a little janky…oops)

If you want to see a certain lipstick color on the lips let me know.  I couldn’t swatch these on my lips in one sitting, as I would no longer have any lips left after scrubbing each of these off. 🙂

Oval Makeup Brush Set – Worth The Hype?

First and foremost I must say that I am reviewing the knock off version of the Artis oval makeup brushes.  The whole 10 piece set at Artis starts at $355 (ick).   I found a site on Facebook or Instagram called MyMakeupBrushSet.com that offered a similar 10 piece set for $25 (now we’re talking).   I ordered a set thinking, well if they suck then I didn’t waste a lot of money on them but if they turned out great then I scored big time!

The brushes round shape design is perfect for blending foundation, blush, or powder to your face or cheeks for a flawless finish.  The round and oval shapes help get into hard to reach places and into those nooks and crannies with ease.  The best way to use is to keep the brush moving across the skin without lifting.

  • Brushes 1 & 2 – Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brushes 3 & 4 – Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour, Foundation, Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brush 5 – Concealer,  Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour, Foundation, Bronzing, Setting Powder
  • Brush 6 – Eye Shadow, Eye Liner, Concealer,  Cheek Blush, Cheek Contour
  • Brush 7 – Eye Shadow, Cheek Contour, Concealer, Foundation, Setting Powder
  • Brush 8 – Eyeshadow, Brow Color, Eyeliner, Concealer
  • Brush 9 – Lip Finish, Eyeshadow, Brow Color, Concealer
  • Brush 10 – Lip Finish, Eyeshadow, Concealer

The brushes are animal cruelty free and made with synthetic hair and are really soft to the touch, which feels good against the skin.  The bristles are pretty dense so it absorbs less product when you apply it to the skin, instead of getting absorbed into the brush and I do feel like it gives you a flawless look.  However, the first time I used these, I jabbed brush #5 into my eyeball while applying concealer.  I’m not going to lie, it hurt!  So be careful around the eye!!!  Of course not everyone is as clumsy as me.  🙂  I really liked how the brushes applied powder products such as blush and bronzer to the skin.  A little product goes a long way and blends easily and evenly onto the skin.  Due to the fact the bristles are so soft you may be inclined to push harder on the face when applying, which leads to pulling of the skin.  You don’t have to push hard, simply use a light hand to achieve a flawless finish.

I clean these brushes as I do any others using a mild soap or cleanser.  (See how here)  You could also use makeup brush cleansing wipes.

The only complaint I have really is that the plastic handles are pretty flimsy so I recommend putting your pointer finger on the back of the head of the brush as you apply for added support.  Also there were a few stray hairs sticking out of a few brushes, but I just cut them off.  Problem solved.

Overall I think they are unique and fun and for a set of 10 for $25 you can’t really go wrong.  Especially if you are needing a new set, building/adding on to your collection or wanting to try something new.  Also it’s worth it just to see your husband’s reaction when he see’s them for the first time.  Mine tried to brush my bulldog’s hair with it….(SMH).

Urban Decay: Alice Looking Through The Glass Palette

Bravo!  Bravo!  Urban Decay has done it again by knocking another palette out of the park.  This psychedelic pop-up palette is inspired by the new Disney movie Alice Through The Looking Glass.  This colorful palette runs $60 at Ulta or UrbanDecay.com and features embossed kaleidoscopic artwork that includes flowers and butterflies and also features a few quotes from the film.

Lift the lid to discover one of those movie quotes that reads “I’m not strange, weird, off nor crazy, my reality is just different than yours.”

Mini Product Review:

  • Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black – I’ve always been a fan of elf’s liquid eyeliner and for $3 you can’t go wrong.  It applies smoothly and is long lasting.
  • Small Stipple Brush – This brush is great for stippling in makeup into those small and/or hard to reach places.  Also great for precise product placement.
  • Small Angled Brush – This is one of my favorite brushes to apply eyeliner or brow product with.  This is also the third one I’ve collected.  The first two were by choice and purchased on my own.  I have one in my professional MUA kit and this one has joined that family as well.  I highly recommend this brush.
  • Mascara & Shadow Shield – I added this in my MUA kit as well.  It’s good to help guard against fall out and help prevent mascara smears if you are applying mascara to someone (or yourself).  This is great especially if they (or you) are really “blinky”.
  • Glitter Primer – Great primer for glitter or those really shimmer eyeshadows.  Helps glitter or shadows adhere to the lid and locks it in place to help prevent fallout.
  • Pout Perfecter – I did not try this out because I want to give it away.  The color was too pink and glittery for me.
  • Eye Primer & Liner Sealer – I would recommend the regular eye primer over this one.  I didn’t like the way it applied.  I felt like it was hard to distribute evenly.
  • HD Blush – WOAH.  Maybe if this was in a lighter shade or a more natural shade I would like this.  This HD blush is way too bright and a little goes a LOOOOONG way.  It comes with a pump application and the first few pumps nothing happened, then it exploded all over my hand.  Needless to say my hands were stained Bright-Barbie-Pink for a day or two.
  • Eyebrow Stencil Kit – I can’t be too choosy when a product is only a $1.  There are four different stencils but I found it a little difficult to hold in place to use.  I would rather fill in my brows free handed.  Plus the stencils are a little thicker than my actual brow.  Meh.
  • Party Ready Palette – If I had to chose between this palette or the Wet-n-Wild Quartz Center palette, I’d go the WNW route.  The colors are very similar but the elf version has horrible fall out.  I ended up with more shadow on my cheeks than my lids.  Maybe that’s why they included the Shadow Shield in with the box?  Plus the WNW palette is also only $6.99
  • Bronzer Palette  – I like this inexpensive bronzer palette.  (In the picture it appears a lot lighter than it actually is). It comes with two matte shades and two shimmers for custom bronzing/contouring.  Can be used as eyeshadow as well.

If you want to see a makeup look using all of these products let me know!

Quick Tip Tuesday: Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm As Foundation Primer!?

Yes, you read “Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm as primer” in the post title and yes, I’m being serious.  I kept seeing claims that this was being used as a foundation primer and how amazing it is (yada yada yada), so I decided to put it to the test to see if it was worth the hype.  I must say, the claims are legit.  LEGIT!  TOO LEGIT TO QUIT!!!!  Ok, sorry….

I put it to the test yesterday and had it on for 9 hours or so, and have to say that my foundation, blush and bronzer not only applied more smoothly and easier, but it still looked great after all day wear.  Normally after 8+ hours I have some fading, streaking, etc.  I am surprisingly impressed by this product!  My top three favorite foundation primers are; MAC’s Prep & Prime Skin Base, Smashbox’s Photo Finish and e.l.f.’s Mineral Primer and while they’re great, I don’t think they can hold up as well as this did.  Don’t quote me 100% on that statement yet.  I’m going to do a test soon and apply MAC on one half of my face and Nivea on the other and do a comparison.  I will let you know the results after I do the experiment, and see if I’m still swooning over the Nivea.

I washed and moisturized my face like normal, before applying the balm.  [Tip:  Apply moisturizer at least 15-30 minutes before applying makeup to your face.  This gives the moisturizer time to sink into your skin and helps foundation to go on more smoothly.]  Apply the balm just like you would your regular primer (it is a liquidy product so a little goes a long way).    I did notice it dried slightly tacky, which makes me think the foundation adhered it to it better.  The tacky feeling goes away and leaves your face feeling fresh and smooth and gives your foundation a flawless finish.  Even after 9 hours my skin still felt soft and moisturized.  It does have a strong ‘Manly’ scent (that reminds me of Old Spice) but it does fade pretty quickly, so you don’t have to feel like you’re walking around smelling like Dudley Do-Right all day.  Also, I have normal to dry skin and it left my skin with a subtle glow.  I have heard claims that it also will work with oily skin as well and that it actually helps with oil control.  (Since I don’t have oily skin I can’t confirm that from personal experience.)

Product description:

  • It comes in a 3.3 ounce glass bottle for $5-$7 at your local drugstore.  That is a steal, not only is it easy on the change purse but you get a ton of product.  Normal foundation primer usually comes in or around an ounce (give or take) and can range from $6-$40+.
  • No alcohol, so doesn’t dry you out.
  • Helps to soothe and improves skin’s defense.
  • Moisturizing.
  • Contains Glycerin (2nd main ingredient), which makes product stick to it.  I think this is the reason for it’s popularity.
  • If you end up not liking it, you can give it to your man and it helps prevent shaving irritation.  (I guess you could share with him anyway 🙂 )

nivea test

I don’t know if you can tell (2nd picture is with my phone vs the Cannon) but you can see my blush & bronzer were still in tact and still had a flawless finish.  My lipstick, eyeliner and lashes on the other hand didn’t make it, but that was because I purposely rubbed them off.

So if you’re looking for an affordable drugstore primer with high-end results, this is an amazing option and you won’t be disappointed.

New Wet-n-Wild Makeup Brushes Review

As I’ve mentioned before, Wet-n-Wild is killing it in the drugstore makeup department, so when I saw they had a new brush collection I could NOT pass them up.  I am no longer a drug store makeup brush snob after trying these out.  I grabbed two new Revlon brushes last month and talked about them some in my drugstore haul post.  Skip those and get these!!!!  The Revlon ones range from $10+ but the new WNW one’s rage from $.99 – $2.99 and they are just better all around.  I think they would be a great addition to your makeup collection (ahem I’m talking to you sis) or if you’re just starting a collection out on a budget.  Highly highly recommend these.  They are so soft and supple and don’t tug or pull on the skin.  Did I mention they only range from $.99 – $2.99?

Brush Description:

  • Cruelty-Free
  • Gluten-Free
  • Vegan
  • Ergonomic handle for control
  • Synthetic Polymax fibers
  • Brushes pick up the perfect amount of product and distributes evenly
  • They are simply adorable!  White handle and white/pink two-tone bristles.  They would look great sitting on your vanity in a cute holder.
  • The only con I have is that they stain easily

The first brush I tried out was the crease brush.  I was shocked at how much product it picked up and distributed onto my eye.  It blended the shadow evenly into the crease and was easy to control.  I have to say it was comparable if not better than my Sigma E35 Tapered Blending and my MAC 234 blending brush.  A $.99 brush compared to a $16-$25 brush….just let that sink in a second.  🙂

I have used and thoroughly enjoyed the 7 brushes I picked up from Wal-Greens.  I will say that I was lucky to get that many in the store because they stay sold out of them.  The lady helping me there said they fly off the shelf as soon as they restock them.  My response was “Yeah, because people like me come in here and wipe you out.”  So if you happen to see any in the drugstore grab them up!  I have ordered the rest of the collection online (except the blush brush, as they are out of stock).

I was able to pick up the powder, contour, foundation, crease, large eyeshadow, small stipple, & small concealer brushes. Click here to see full the collection.

I was inspired to do a full face makeup look using nothing but Wet-n-Wild products but my camera died on me in the middle of the tutorial.  GRRRRR.  I will upload that post & tutorial tomorrow so stay tuned.
