Blue Lace Romper + Paris

I have always had a love for Paris (even before visiting), there was always this magical pull that tugged at my heart-strings.  I have Paris decor in my beauty room and even our vacation rental is decorated in a Parisian theme.  A lifelong dream was always to go there and experience the sidewalk cafe’s, croissants, the yummy cheese, and of course to see the beautiful architecture and Eiffle Tower.  I finally got the chance to visit the beautiful city on a European trip the husband and I took last month.  It didn’t disappoint!

On our last night we watched the sunset on a rooftop bar and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.  If you ever get a chance to visit Paris, I highly recommend finding a romantic spot and watching this phenomenon.

Before leaving, I was rummaging through a cute little boutique in Annapolis and ran across this amazing blue lace romper.  I tried it on and thought it would be a great date-night outfit in Paris.

Outfit details:

I kept it very simple with the accessories.  When I travel, I travel very light…like two weeks in a carry on type light (I plan on doing a how to post on this in the near future).  Besides, the star was the romper.

White Denim: 10 Ways

I love white denim jeans and consider them to be a closet staple.  I also think they can be worn all year round, especially in the winter time paired with a sweater, scarf and boots.  The “No White After Labor Day” rule is absurd and outdated.  However, since it is spring time and white is worn more so in the warmer months, I wanted to share with you a few tips and ideas for styling white denim jeans.

 1.  A fitted blazer gives white jeans a classic professional look.

2.  Classic black & white.  Sometimes all you need is a black shirt.

The Shirtdress-Why It’s Perfect For Spring

Spring is in the air….SPRING IS IN THE AIR!!!!!  At least it was here in the DC area last week.  We had 70 degree, sun shiny weather, just long enough for a teaser.  I even got to throw the top halfway back on my Jeep for a few days (was still a little too chilly for complete toplessness).  Which brings me to the topic of clothing.  By March, I’m usually tired of sweaters, pants, jackets, boots, etc.  The teasing warmer weather makes me ready to break out those summer dresses, sandals, flip flops, pedicures that you can actually see….you get the point.  So this leads me to today’s post and why I think the “shirtdress” is the perfect dress for spring.

Express     |      Express    |      Target

A shirtdress is basically an oversized version of a button down shirt and they come in all kinds of prints, colors and fabric.  The versatility of a shirtdress is just about endless.  They can be casual, chic, dressy and even sexy, if styled correctly.  For those cooler days/nights you can unroll the sleeves for added warmth or roll them up on warmer days.  They are perfect for a cold-to-warm weather transition, and can be worn to work (long as they are length appropriate, knee length), lunch dates or for a night out.

  • BELT IT

-Usually the shirtdress comes with a matching belt, which helps elongate the body and gives the dress a waistline for a feminine shape.

-Forego the matching belt and style with a regular belt, wether it be a solid color or print.

-For a even bigger punch, style with a colorful scarf for the belt.

Five Valentine’s Day Outfits

Valentine’s Day is next weekend and if you are anything like me, you are already thinking, “What am I going to wear?”  Normally I would run out to the nearest mall to find the perfect outfit but this year I decided to shop in my own closet.  I encourage you to do the same, you’d be surprised at how you can revamp that little black dress or that pencil skirt by updating them with accessories.

The Little Black Dress:

  • I took this simple sexy calf-length black dress  and added a statement bib necklace.  The necklace now becomes the focal point and completely transforms the dress.  [Don’t have a statement necklace?  You can keep the necklace simple or completely forego one, and add bold earrings and/or a bracelet]

  • Since I paired such a statement piece with my dress I kept the rest of the accessories simple.  I added a small silver clutch (to match the metal in my necklace) and a single crystal bracelet.  [For earrings I would either wear diamond/crystal studs or pavé ball studs]
  • I added flirty black shoes.  (I call these my Carrie Bradshaw shoes)  I sometimes like to add a print or colored shoes to a lbd, but I didn’t want to take away from the necklace so I kept it simple.

The Lace Dress:

  • Lace is a classy, feminine look and can be worn many ways.  I paired this gold lace dress with this multi-strand statement collar necklace to give it a classic look with a modern twist.   By combining pearls and antique brass plated chains with vintage oval & cushion cut crystals it gives it a “retro-glam” vibe.

  • I brought the same jewelry pattern to the rest of my jewelry pieces:  Vintage crystal drop earring and bracelets.
  • In keeping within the classy feminine theme, I paired with pointed toe shoes.  I picked shoes with a print that held the same color tones as my dress & jewelry.

The Printed Dress:

  • I love playful, fun and bold print dresses.  I dressed up this t-shirt style dress by adding camel colored suede heels, a belt at the natural waist to give it a feminine shape, and kept it simple with the jewelry.  I paired a pavé link necklace and layered the matching bracelet with another bracelet, that included the same metal tones and ivory stones to add a smidge of glamour.  I also added a ring with the same features.

The Chiffon Dress:

  • Chiffon flowy dresses are fun, flirty and adds an elegant look that’s effortless.  The elastic waist adds a feminine flair to it.  I personally think this should be a closet staple.  You can wear them to weddings, on date nights, girls nights out, parties, etc.  For the Valentine’s Day look I kept the accessories to a minimum by adding a pendant necklace (cab be worn long or short), jacket earrings and a statement ring, in all the same jewel tones.  I wanted the dress and shoes to be the focal point of this look.

  • These jewel studded heels adds a romantic oomph to this already elegant dress.

The Pencil Skirt:

  • I liked this look so much that I left it on Frannie (the mannequin).  This look can be worn from the office straight to a dinner date or out for drinks.  I paired this soft romantic pink peplum top with a black pencil skirt with a lace hem for an hourglass look, and strappy heels.  The back of this shirt is the star of the show.  How cute but sexy is this top?!  Peplum may not be as popular today as it was, say in 2012-2013, but I find that it’s shape is flattering on most body types.  [When picking out peplum you should go one size up so that the waistline is not digging into your body.]

  • So stinking cute!

  • I kept to a neutral color palette with the jewelry for this look.  Black & ivory stones with gold leaf accents keeps this outfit looking soft and romantic.

Sparkle & Shine: Holiday Outfit Post 3

“Silver and Gold / Silver and Gold / Everyone wishes for Silver and Gold / How do you measure its worth? / Just by the pleasure it gives here on Earth”- Sorry about that….I got that song by Burl Ives stuck in my head when I mixed these gold metal details with this silver sequin skirt.  I created a more “edgy” holiday look for you today.  Finish off this look with a black leather moto jacket, gold bangles, gold studs or gold jacket earrings, and last but not least a red lip.

Sparkle & Shine: Holiday Outfit Post 2

More sparkle & shine holiday style coming atcha!!!  Although, it doesn’t feel very Christmasy outside today because it is 70 degrees!  Spring like weather in December is kind of putting a damper on my wanting to wear winter clothing, but I’m going to share anyways.  I think this may end up being my New Years Eve choice but you could wear it for a Christmas party just as easy.

The Look:

I love this all sequin dress from the Express outlet (also comes in black).  The back has a cut out on the upper portion so gives it a classy sexy look.  Add a black blazer if you’re going to an office party or a black moto jacket if you want to add some edge.  Pair this dress with gold or silver strapy heels (depending on your mood or jewelry choice) or with black tights and booties (which is probably how I’ll wear it NYE).  Black stilettos are also a great choice.  This is how I styled it for you on this 70 degree day.

Sparkle & Shine: Holiday Outfit Post 1

I absolutely LOVE this time of year!  I love all the Christmas lights, the movies (doesn’t get any better that It’s a Wonderful Life), the ugly Christmas sweaters, a fire in the fireplace curled up with a good book, hot cocoa or wine, all the SHOPPING…I could go on and on, but one of my favorite things is dressing up!  Whether it be for a party, night out with the girls or date night, any excuse to “sparkle & shine”.

I wore this ensemble over the weekend to dinner with the hubby and some friends.  I mixed textures and metals together to create this holiday look.

Outfit Post: Fall Plaid

Over the weekend we hosted a chili/bonfire get together at our house.  I wanted to be comfortable but still “stylish” so I hit the closet and pulled out this fall favorite:  Plaid and boots (or as I like to call the look Female Lumberjack).  🙂  I wanted to dress it up a little so I paired it with this GORGEOUS statement necklace.  What are some of your fall favorites?

Outfit Post: Green & Fringe Part 2

As promised, day 2 of “green & fringe”.  I recently purchased this shirt dress from Target.  It’s the perfect transitional dress for fall.  You can dress it up with heels or dress it down with sandals on those warmer days.  You can pair it with boots or booties on cooler days.  Or if it’s really cold out, you could add leggings and a leather or a blue jean jacket for extra style and warmth.

Shop the look:

  • Merona shirt dress by Target – exact here
  • Charming Charlie Fairweather Fringe Booties – exact here (currently out of stock) or similar here and here
  • Charming Charlie Fold and Fringe Clutch – exact here
  • Gold locket – It was my grandmother’s locket.  Her initials are on the front and I keep her picture inside it. A very special piece of jewelry that I hold dear to my heart.  🙂

I also love the slight hi-lo look of this dress.  How would you style this dress?  Let me know!
